Planning your travel arrangements

Like many big cities, London is vast. Whilst you certainly won’t be short of things to do, it can be tricky planning what to do when. This is especially so if you are visiting the big smoke for a short amount of time – if you’re not careful you could end up spending a lot of time travelling between places!

When planning your trip, to minimise travel time, reduce stress and reduce your chances of getting stuck in traffic, it’s best to get the train. You can easily get the train to London, of which you can then use the underground to get to your destination. If you’d prefer, you can also use one of the many frequent busses or even hop in one of the famous ‘black cabs’ if you’re running short on time.

Finding accommodation

Accommodation in London is thankfully not difficult to come by. London boasts some of the best hotels in the world (including the Savoy!), so it can be tricky deciding where to stay.

Whilst it can be tempting to book a bargain a little further out of the center, it is often a good idea to splurge a little extra on a hotel in a central location. Although it may seem more expensive at first, it can prove cheaper in the long run. After all, travelling in and out of the city can get expensive!

If you’ve left things last minute, there will likely be some last-minute bookings at B&Bs which would do the trick. They might not be quite as luxurious but should still offer a good place to rest your feet after a busy day sightseeing.

Best places to eat and drink

Home to cuisine from all over the world, you won’t be stuck for choice in London. Whether you’re looking for a fancy afternoon tea, or something a little more rustic - there’s something for even the fussiest eaters. For some of the most popular food places you will need to book well in advance, but if you’re struggling to book somewhere – don’t panic! There are a plethora of smaller restaurants serving excellent food that happily take walk ins and you could always consider a private group dining session too that using Square Meal UK for something completely different.

If you’re after something a bit different, there are also pop-ups all year round. TimeOut London have all the latest details, so why not have a look and keep up with the latest openings? Similarly, if you’re looking for street food, why not give borough market a try? As one of the biggest food markets in London, you won’t be leaving hungry!
