My Storyteller Blanket (pattern by Attic24)

You may already have seen my images on Instagram but I couldn't be happier with how my version of the Storyteller Blanket by Attic24 turned out!  But there's a bit of background to how we ended up here...

One of my team at work was interested in relearning how to crochet a granny square after trying a few years ago but losing interest.  We started a mini crochet club in our lunch break and by the end of the first week, she was stitch-perfect!  I went on annual leave for a week and, by the time I returned, she was crocheting pumpkins for Halloween and decorations for the office.

We both spotted the Storyteller pattern announcement on Facebook and thought it would be a perfect project to work on side-by-side.  She ordered the official yarn pack but I saw it as a great opportunity to use up a good chunk of my yarn stash, which seems to have accumulated a lot of pink and purple.

On top of this, rather than following the pattern to the letter, I went a bit rogue. I opted for fewer rows than suggested, and - just for fun - I added pattern-matching squares at the top and bottom before edging it with the border. That's the beauty of handmade craft though - you aren’t bound by rules. You can take inspiration from a pattern and still make it unmistakably yours.

Me and Vicki checked in with each other occasionally and I worked on mine mainly in the evenings,  It took about six weeks all together and now it sits at the end of my sofa for when I need it on these colder winter nights.

The Attic24 pattern list is always my first port of call if I'm looking for a new project to start, or a tutorial for a specific stitch pattern so I can totally recommend giving the Storyteller blanket a go, regardless of how long you've been crocheting - it's a good starter for a beginner or something relaxing for a more experiened crocheter,

Don’t be afraid to colour outside the lines. Use what you have, follow your heart, and trust that what you create will be uniquely yours. Because that’s the real magic of handmade.
