I was very sad today when I read about #twitrelief.  Basically, you can bid on eBay for a celebrity to follow you on Twitter and, for the highest bidder, they will become a "friend with benefits" for a short time.  They will follow you, retweet you and mention you for a whole 90 days.  All proceeds to Comic Relief , naturally (yes, I've included the Comic Relief links because I'm nice like that.  If you want to bid that's entirely up to you.). Whoopie-fucking-do! I think I may have turned into the "Citizen Smith" of Twitter for half an hour - Power to the Tweeters or something -  because, for me, this actually take away the ethos behind twitter; the conversation and marketing platform that it has become.

When I made the decision to blog and tweet in my own name I realised that there would be some people who didn't agree with my opinions, others that would really enjoy reading about the crap that I write about and that I would meet and converse with some bloody interesting people.  That's how the internet works.  In the same respect, I also realise that the World Wide Web and social media isn't static - just like real life, really.  I mean, if I still followed the same five people I followed when I first joined Twitter then Stephen Fry and Jonathan Ross would be a bit pissed off with me by now.  You have to speculate to accumulate.  You also have to do a bit of weeding to allow growing space.  You finally have to remember that you are at the mercy of computer programmes who seem to have a mind of their own. So, when I logged onto Twitter this lunch time I was VERY surprised to read the following:

Back in mid-December the team at British Mummy Bloggers announced that there was to be a " Brilliance in Blogging " Award Ceremony, celebrating the great blogs of 2010.  All bloggers were invited to nominate their favourite blogs in five separate categories which were then narrowed down to a short long list on which we were invited to vote .  Today the results were announced on Twitter using the #brillBMB hashtag and you can see all the results in a full blog post over on The BMB Blog .  It was a lovely, albeit hectic, half-hour on Twitter, celebrating some fantastic blogs, bloggers and posts - a great way to spend my lunch break.  And that was that... ... or so I thought!
